This webinar explores the powerful history of African resistance to enslavement and the enduring legacy of those who fought for freedom. While slavery is often portrayed through narratives of oppression and suffering, this session highlights the courage, resilience, and leadership of Africans and people of African descent who resisted enslavement in many forms such as cultural preservation and everyday acts of defiance to organised revolts and revolutionary movements.

By examining these stories of resistance, the session reframes the history of enslavement to centre African agency, dignity, and the persistent struggle for liberation. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how acts of resistance shaped the fight against enslavement and continue to influence movements for justice and equality today.
