The History of Black Power Children Workshop ONLINE
Make History come to life with these Sankofa Sunday ‘History of Black Power’ children workshops led by Charmaine Simpson of Black History Studies. With its emphasis on Black racial identity, pride and self-determination, Black Power influenced everything from popular culture to education to politics. These workshops will inspire young people to use their voice to defend their rights and contribute to change in their community.
Each workshop will last 1.5 hours. The workshops are aimed at young people aged 8 – 16 years old.
These workshops will be online using Zoom. The Zoom link will be provided upon registration.
Tickets for each workshop cost £5.00.

Session 1: Power to the People: The History of the Protest Song – Sunday 9 August @ 12pm – 1.30pm
In this session, we will explore the roots of Black Music, the role of music in social movements and how music can be used for social change.

Session 2: The British Black Power Movement – Sunday 16 August @ 12pm – 1.30pm
In this session, we will explore the Black British Civil Rights movement focusing on organisations such as the British Black Panther Party.

Session 3 : Black Power in Sport – Sunday 23 August @ 12pm – 1.30pm
In this session, we will explore Black Protests in Sport by sports personalities who used their involvement in sport to support the struggle for change.
