A History of Anti-Black Racism in Science & Medicine

Date: December 11, 2021
Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am
Location: ONLINE
Events | Presentations

This webinar is dedicated to Dr Susan Moore (1967 – 2020) who died in December 2020 with Covid-19 weeks after she accused a doctor of denying her proper medical care because of her race.

The history of medicine and science is marked by racial injustice and myriad forms of violence: unequal access to health care, the segregation of medical facilities and the exclusion of Black people from medical education are some of the most obvious examples. These, together with inequalities in housing, employment opportunities, wealth, and social service provision, produce disproportionate health disparities by race. This webinar seeks to confront these painful histories of racism in science and medicine that continue to haunt us today. A deeper understanding of our history can help us promote health equity in the present.
