More than sixty years after Ghana became the first sub-Saharan African nation to achieve independence, the vision of Kwame Nkrumah remains as powerful and relevant as ever. Nkrumah believed that political independence alone was not enough—that Africa’s true freedom could only be secured through continental unity.
Join Black History Studies for an engaging and thought-provoking presentation exploring the life, ideas and enduring legacy of one of Africa’s greatest revolutionary leaders. Discover how Nkrumah’s commitment to Pan-Africanism inspired liberation movements across the continent and why he passionately argued that Africa must unite politically, economically and culturally to overcome the lasting effects of colonialism and neo-colonialism.
This presentation will examine Nkrumah’s remarkable journey from student activist to the first President of Ghana, the significance of his landmark book Africa Must Unite, his role in the creation of the Organisation of African Unity, and the challenges that prevented his vision of a united Africa from becoming reality.
Participants will also explore the continuing relevance of Nkrumah’s ideas in the twenty-first century, including the African Union, the African Continental Free Trade Area, economic sovereignty, reparations, natural resources, and the role of the global African diaspora in shaping Africa’s future.
Whether you are new to African history or already interested in Pan-African thought, this presentation offers a fascinating opportunity to reflect on one of the most influential political thinkers of the modern era and to consider what African unity could mean for future generations.
