Black History Studies presents ‘Decolonising Classical Music: African Heritage in Classical Music,’ on Friday 19 June 2020

 

June is Black Music Month. Music is an important part of our cultural heritage. In this presentation titled ‘Decolonising Classical Music: African Heritage in Classical Music,’ Black History Studies will uncover the hidden contributions of musicians and composers of African descent to the genre of classical music. We will go on a musical journey to uncover the hidden history and contributions of Black classical musicians and composers to World History. In this presentation we will examine the black classical music legacy with profiles of key artists who made valuable contributions that impacted classical music from the 16th through the 21st centuries.
